Richard Nikolaus Graf von Coudenhove-Kalergi was one of the most important visionaries of Europe in the twentieth century. From the end of the First World War until his death in 1972, he continuously campaigned for European unity. He sought contact with the most important politicians in the European countries, wrote countless articles and books and traveled across Europe, all with the aim of seeing his European concepts realized as soon as possible. The most important instrument in this commitment to Europe, however, was the Paneuropa Union he founded, the first European movement ever.
