Philipp Melanchthon

Since his appointment to Wittenberg in 1518, Melanchthon stood alongside Luther as a reformer who was of the same mind, judged to be so by Luther himself. In fact, Melanchthon played a decisive role in the Reformation. It is larger than many people know today. The talented humanist, the most learned of his contemporaries, Melanchthon won the respect of the educated world through his pure character. Even Erasmus of Rotterdam admired him.
