Rosa Luxemburg is a figure from recent history who is still the subject of heated controversy today. She came from an assimilated Jewish family with Germanophile tendencies from the then Russian-ruled part of Poland. It was determined by its origins to internationalism. She remained lifelong connected with Poland. As a Prussian citizen and German social democrat, she represented the interests of the Polish minority living in Germany, opposed attempts at Germanization, but at the same time rejected the unity of Poland. In social democracy, she belonged to the extreme left.
